Hmm. let’s see, can I choose 3 of the following to describe myself?
  • Inquirers
  • Knowledgeable
  • Thinkers
  • Communicators
  • Principled
  • Open-minded
  • Caring
  • Risk-takers
  • Balanced and
  • Reflective.

I guess If I had to pick 3, I would choose PRINCIPLED, INQUIRER and COMMUNICATOR.  With these 3 as my (perceived) primary traits, I sometimes wonder if such a specific, content-focused subject as a Group 4 science subject is my ideal class.  I do long for (what I imagine as) the greater flexibility of what to teach in classes such as TOK.  But I do genuinly love science, and that helps drive me to teach this topic.  And as an inquirer, it certainly is not out of line; I just need to work a little harder to find ways to broaden what we do and how we do it in class.

Sorry if this seems vague; its a very general question :)

‘consistent and coherent progression’

So I am pretty new to this whole progress.  I have at best a very theoretical understanding of the progression of science courses where I teach.  This is complicated by the fact that I teach at a school – SEHS – that is not an IHS.  Rather, there is an attached IHS school that sends some students over to take specific courses, such as IB Physics.  In any case, I know that students are expected to obtain two main things

1) an understanding of how science works in a genral sense, includin why it is important, what are key aspects of it, etc.

2)a solid foundation in specific content areas, namely biology, chemistry and physics.

There’s not a lot of emphasis put on how science fits in with other disciplines, which I think seems more like an IB thing, but again, I’m very new to this.
